    GET MCB or equivalent

I need to replace a knackered 40A RCCB in a GET board, all of the breakers are dual branded GET/Schupa. The used ones I can see online (including Alto) have a triple width item for 63/80A which the board doesn't have enough space for. Anybody know if something more readily available eg...

Thanks all, much appreciated. Dave I'm not that daft- whole circuit has no earths so IR test was L-N with all the lamps out and the switches on

What type of cable is this?

I've never come across this sort of cable in a domestic installation before- bizarrely apart from the loft lights the rest of this 1960s house is wired in PVC. IR tests out fine thankfully.

    Test kit recommendations please

Crikey this didn't take long to deviate substantially... Thanks for replies so far. Case not really something I'm worried about, currently using a Pelicase copy and can easily refoam it to suit. MFT1553 isn't made any more so that option's out.

    Test kit recommendations please

My test kit for the past five years has been a Metrel MI3125B. It is ready for replacement for the following reasons: 1) The test lead has recently acquired a dodgy earth, replacing that would cost £30 2) The calibration was up in December, that would cost me £30 3) I can't get a USB-RS232...

    Can you identify this trunking?

Spent half an hour on Google images and I think I've answered my own question, it's Centaur Campus 100x50 trunking. Next question is, can I buy it anywhere else other than CEF? Last time I went in there knowing which brand of trunking I wanted they assured me I wanted their own brand instead...

    Can you identify this trunking?

Making some additions to this 50x100 trunking fitted in an office in August 2008. What brand is it so I can get new bits to fit? More pics: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4b15PxUx4zffmJqbHZMMHduTjB0dnNwTzRfeXFnQmx5Y2lwTmhVN2piN2dMN2daTHo4NXc&usp=sharing

    Cattle shed lighting- bonding queries

I've been asked to put a dozen bulkhead lights in some farm buildings. The board (IP65, TT, all RCBOs) and switches (IP65) are in an adjacent storage building (no livestock). I'm planning the lights to be polycarbonate fittings, all fixed to structural timbers and wired using singles in...

    Bonding clamp for steelwork

I need to bond an installation in a sectional building. The structure is made from several I-Beam arches joined by timber purlins so I need to bond each arch. I can't find these clamps mentioned much online, are they just called "I beam bonding clamps" or do I need to ask for something else...

    Fitzgerald Fluorescent fittings

I've been asked to source some replacement prismatic diffusers/covers for some twin 6' Fitzgerald fluorescents. I think I read somewhere online that Fitzgerald had gone bust and their current range certainly doesn't include any fixtures that look like these. They are pretty standard rectangular...

    Fault finding advice

My IR tests were done at 500V so I will probably go back and test at 1000V now. Des, which test are you referring to? I didn't record any results that seemed obviously fine during my faultfinding sessions

    Fault finding advice

I got asked to find an occasional fault by a regular customer of mine. I'm now totally stumped. This is how the relevant part of the installation stands today... [ Main House ] 5m T&E [ Conservatory ] 30m SWA [ Garden ] 20m T&E in conduit [ Greenhouse ] [ CU - Non ]----->----[...

    Advice on Barn Wiring

The barn's about 9x9m and for the last 40 years or so the farmer has used a 25m extension from the house to the yard for power tools about twice a year. I suggested to him the cost of installing sockets in addition to lights would be minimal. Plan is for the gewiss unit to contain two 13A...
