so i went to the wholesalers and they hooked me up with 2x5w leds 240v and a dimmer they said matched. i put them in and they started flickering now and then? first thing i did was check the connections they where fine. then i took the dimmer of and put a normal switch on and every now and then the lights flicker on and off so im pretty sure its the bulbs.. how commen is this?

yep. what you need is a snubber or 3. connect across the S/L and N of the LEDs. experiment on the best position/s to fit them. a bit of trial and error.

i disconnected the florescent i also put the normal switch on and put a normal 50w halogen "dodgy" bulb and still slightly flickerd?? it cant be the connections checked multi times there solid... there's still emergency lighting but would they effect it??

Are the lamps flickering when they're on or flickering when the switch is in the off position?

These snubbers... If it's between s/l and N, presumably you could cut the cable feeding the light and just use a few who's and put it in a little enclosure? Or presumably you could put one end of it in the light switch and connect the other end I to the N at the switch if it's there?

just flicker slightly randomly its not the bulbs because it tested a 50w halogen on them and it also did the same and have checked the voltage " 240-245volts " and checked the connections a number of times just dont know what to do. disconnected the florescent and they still flicked the emergency lights are still connected could it be them

Have you tried wiring in another light fitting temporarily and seeing if there is a problem with the fitting itself, maybe the lamp is not making good contact, the lamp holder leads are corroded or loose, etc..
If you are getting lamp flickering with both LED and incandescent and there are no loose wiring connections or rapidly switching other loads on the circuit then you have to come down to a loose connection somewhere, as you have checked all your connections it must be the fitting (you have changed everything else!)

yeahh for example the 2 x 5 watt leds will flicker completely off and on or very slightly now and then the halogens just dont always keep constant brightness but do not flicker completely off and on
