I require an Electrician to re-certfy a job in Moreton on the Wirral. The job is a garage conversion to a utility room. All the work has been completed. I had one guy let me down. So looking for someone local to do it again for me.

Unfortunately, we don't live in an affluent world any more and one has to do ones best with the funds available.

My post was more of a generalisation, I just think that every member of the public should ask for proof of an electricians scheme membership and references before the work starts, remember a genuine qualified and legit Electrician will have nothing to hide and will be happy to prove his credentials.

The person that did all the work was me, I was a spark in theatre and film for years, now retired, I'm just not certfied for domestic work. All I wanted was someone to sign it off as safe and correct.

Right I misread your post, but no electrician should sign someone elses work off because the minute they sign the certificate they then become liable if anything goes wrong with that installation.

there's 2 scenarios here.

1. certification of the work.

2. notification to building control.

which is it that you need?

So you're an experienced Electrician then?
If you're not selling the house or whatever in the near future, have faith in your abilities that the work you've done is sound. It's your house, it doesn't need 'signing off' by anyone.

Why exactly does the work need certifying now? As mentioned, this could be for Building Control, or you are selling and been asked for it, or for some other reason?

I had a customer a couple of years ago who had done a similar amount of work himself, he was also a theatre/stage technician, and was now moving house and had been asked by the buyers solicitor. If I recall, there was an outbuilding supply, with power & lighting, also a new shower circuit in the house. Actually the work was so well done, it was way above the normal standard for domestic work. In this case, I did an EICR for just the relevant circuits (plus earthing/bonding), which was sufficient.

He did it 6 months ago and has not given me the report, I think I got done, he got three hundred quids work of work out of me, by saying the original fuse box had to be updated in the house. Then didn't hear from him again.. So I'm looking for someone local to certify it all for me.

Given what the OP later discloses in this thread this is not true so on this basis he's on his own IMHO

What a cheek these people have, they come on an electricians forum, ask for advise, lie through the teeth about the situation and/or their own involvement, whilst the primary reason seems to be to hope to bypass the costs associated with the administration side of domestic installation using some poverty stricken spark to get them out of a mess
