Whatever it is the RCBO is needed for, can it not just go on an mcb on the existing RCD split?

It could Dave, but It is a fairly large refurbishment, so I shall be playing about with the cooker switch, sockets and light circuit all on the unprotected side... all involving new chasing, so I want them all RCD protected. It would be a bit like just having an RCD as a main switch if I moved them all over... so not great.

Why take the output from the relevent MCB to a stand alone RCD unit, with the output going back to the board to connect up with the relevent circuit, or if there is enough slack on the circuit, take that into the output of the RCD. Could look a bit messy with 3 circuits though.

Would achieve the same as RCBOs.

You could put 3 RCDs in an empty 6 way board.

I sincerely hope that when you say 'playing about with' you don't actually mean that.

If you are working on a significant number of circuits then it would quite possibly be a sensible time to discuss replacing that CU.
