Have a broken switch on a one way switch can I use an intermediate swith to fix it or do I need to go get another one way switch ? Many thanks Dan

Yes you can, assuming you have only two wires connect each into the L1 terminals. Some manufacturers vary the terminal markings so if that fails try L1 and L2 opposites.
 
It'll work one way or t'other.
