Currently, I have a side garage port (with a garage door, but open on the garden side) supplied by a 2.5mm2 radial circuit. The plan is to convert the port to a proper garage next year.
As the bedrooms are currently under refurbishment and the floorboards easily accessible, I would like to make the things easier for when I am going to need a car charger, and also I would prefer to have a 32 Amp supply in the garage.

As I understand that a car charger needs 32 Amps, would the best approach be to install a 16mm2 cable from the consumer unit, to which once I have the garage converted to connect a small secondary consumer unit? I was thinking about having the end of the cable protected in a weatherproof box until the garage is done.

Some EV chargers require a data cable back to the intake, as well as the supply conductors, which can be integrated into one cable, for example: Cut to Length EV-ULTRA EV Charger Cable 3 Core 6mm SWA Power + Data | Toolstation - https://www.toolstation.com/cut-to-length-ev-ultra-ev-charger-cable/p57644 which would be separate from the circuit for other uses (sockets etc).

I don't do EV chargers, so not really qualified to comment on where that market is heading, and whether it would be useful to install something like the above dedicated for future EV use, or not.

Thank you for the info!
