Discuss No back box ... Just straight into the wall behind in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Why doesn’t Uk have something like this?

No back box? The socket could have a cable grip and a cover over the terminals.

Drill a 2 inch hole in the plasterboard, let the excess cable hang into void.

The only downside would be getting a decent fixing… and install time against a dry lining box.

also got this beast. preset holes. good for fine stranded as no pull on conductors. goes from 0.25.. -6.0mm.

It’s occurred to me that the mechanical stresses placed on the socket frame by inserting and removing our UK plugs are greater than several other countries designs.

I wouldn’t be worried about the socket pictured pulling away from plasterboard. I’m not so sure about our plugs and sockets being ok secured at four points via screws from the front.

screw some long coach bolts in from next door. couple of hooks, so neighbour can hang his wellies up.
