I recommended putting each appliance on there in circuits using commando sockets with rotary isolations, his response was "it will be cheaper to keep changing the double socket than do all that". Madness

I guess their policy on food hygiene and quality will be based on cost too!!! You didn't eat there did you?!!

Tony why would I offer to install an additional socket. So they can put another 4 way socket outlet in it? By putting commando sockets in each appliance has its own individual supply, no additional items can be plugged in to overload it and it is also better for cleaning. As this is a commercial property it has a 20% eicr carried out each year.
 
Surely the problem here (apart from the dirt and using the multiway adapter) is that the plug is badly wired or with dirty pins and the resistance is overheating the pin of the plug and melting the socket.
If the appliance were taking too much current the fuse would blow in the plug and it seems unlikely (unless they were loosely plugged in) that all three outlets were faulty.
 
wouldn't put it past them to have a copper wire link in place of the 1362.
