Discuss Shall i give this lad a chance in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Always remember to start with the basics so that he has a base to build on (or to wire on!), if you immediately go for the most complicated things then this may get him unsure and lose confidence.
Also it is no good being able to integrate the Fourier transform of the seventh harmonic of a three phase supply when you do not know how to wire a plug!

I hope you have your method statements and risk assessments in place and have got him to sign his training matrix and you have arranged a program for his periodic assessment!
I am sure he is aware of your health and safety policy, the first aid arrangements and location of the accident book, the emergency plan and the fire safety plan because that goes without saying!

Good luck it seems to be going well, long may it continue.
Good work UKsparks.

Glad you took him on mate, i know what its like trying to find somewhere/someone. Started my apprenticeship at 16, 17 now and about to start my second year. Trying to find someone to even give you a chance was very very very difficult. When they said "what age are you?" On the phone and you said 16 you almost heard them gasp! There are some guys at 16 are genuinely interested and can make a cracker cuppa as you have seen!
i was an older apprentice (22) whenever i was looking for a start prospective employers said they wanted a young lad at 16 as i'd probably be a know all, and be expecting a decent wage
