Hi guys,
I’m a qualified spark having worked on a few industrial projects I’m keen to getting into instrumentation.
Has anyone done this? Are there any courses that people recommend?
Cheers
Mark
You won't need a drill at college, maybe just take sidecutters and a terminal driver..also take a pad of paper, coloured pens and a copy of the on-site guide would be useful
Tools your going to need:
hacksaw
file
setsquare
hammer
grips( water pump pliers)
small magnetic level
tape measure
screwdrivers
side cutters or croppers
pencils and marker pens
this should get you going. As for drills have a look around for a decent 18v combi drill..makita,dewalt etc spend...
Finally completed my nvq with xs training. Can highly recommend them, Jaime, my assesser was quick to reply to any questions and provided feedback to assist me completing my nvq. Now to apply for my gold card..
I think the contractors phoenix m&e, and jpng agency were after blokes for it. A couple of blokes from the site im on were out there for awhile working direct for the firm.. the moneys not great, the jobs in the middle of nowhere and the digs are an hour or 2 from the job also in the middle of...
This is good advice, pretty much what i done..i started college when i was 26.few years later nearly finished my NVQ and fully qualified. When you get a job on site be prepared to work hard, be polite, show interest and other sparks will be more willing to help you..Good luck!
You can do the ECS health and safety test, and apply for an ECS card you'll be graded as a labourer until you complete your nvq. Having a card means you'll be able to get on site. Get some basic tools and ppe( steel toe capped boots etc).Apply to the local agencies and companies direct as...

Try and get work direct with a company you'll be better off. Agencies will lie to you and charge you to get your wages, don't believe anything they say. If they tell you 2months work expect 2 weeks work.
Ive seen the milwaukee 18v with two 4amp batteries for £349..good price. Then i can upgrade my combi aswell. Its getting more expensive by the minute:willy_nilly:
I've already got a 110v bosch sds, does the job. Not bad for small sites but large sites its a nightmare trying to find power and having miles of trailing leads.
Maybe i'll just stick with the 110v tho, for the price of a a cordless i'd have to watch it like a hawk on site otherwise it'll go...
