Discuss 17th edition in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

BS7671. read and re-read. know where things are to be found.

Telectrix has it right, it's all about where to find the information, there really isn't anything more to it than that. So familiarise yourself with the book to a degree where you know the section to look in for any given reg type.

Include all the weird and wonderful too. When asked what the minimum height for lights in a circus are for example. Slightly higher than an elephant's 4rse won't do, it needs to be a measurement.

but in an elephant's bathroom , as long as they're above 2.25m, they only need to be IP20. unless you need to consider how high an elephant can pi$$.

I'd imagine if you were setting up a bathroom for an elephant the urinal would need to count as Zone 1, given the risk presented from elephant splash back. As for all that splashing and squirting they do with their trunks ....

surely they only wear trunks for swimming, so it would come under section 702, and they'd be pi$$ing in the water anyway.

or use a sound sensitive switch to pick up trhe sound of the elephant farting. we all fart in the bath, don't we?
