Hi Guys. I`ve got a 2003 Galaxy TDCI with a noise which I believe is the alternator as when I use anything that needs power like lights or electric windows it gets louder. What should I look for first to get it fixed?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

or get a Electrical Trainee to look at it. you'll be told that the engine is obsolete and doesn't comply with current regulations and so will need to be replaced at a cost of £3000.

Could be belt failing, drive clutch,on alternator (if fitted),or worn/seized tensioner.

Have it looked at before that expensive taxi ride...

Unless it's noticeably loose, first stop would be to just fit a new belt. If you overtighten belts it causes premature bearing failure on the pulley shaft bearings so always rather go a smidgen loose with a belt than too tight if you don't have a tension checking gauge tool.

thought you used elephant gut for fan belts in SA. :38:

Here calm your beans man. The post (admittedly in the wrong section) is based on an alternator which, last time I checked, is somewhat relevant in our sector

...Yet another innocent, benign thread i have posted on,where there has been a disappearance...i'm starting to get a complex...:uhoh2:

Check the alternator pulley they are a freewheel type and can cause the problem you have when they fail. They normally seize and are not repairable my brothers have replaced a few on the Galaxy / Sharan / Alhambra vehicles they have. Problems with the pulley are also noticeable when driving the vehicle when you lift of the accelerator in normal driving
