Came across this today

Not sure if picture has uploaded. I opened up the main incoming box on outside wall to find the tails had been split in a Henly block and into an enclosure with a 100A main switch in it. Out of this there was an armored cable out to a separate building in the garden with a 5-5 split board. The armored gland is on but not made into the enclosure. Just the cores go in !!
Imsuggeting making the armored off into a metal adaptable box under the box and replacing the enclosure with a 80 fused cut out. Any other suggesions apart from run a mile!!! her are 9 ccts in use it as basically been made into an appartent but there is no kitchen

Nothing unusual about that sort of bodge. Probably done by a builder or a DIYer.

do as you say with the adaptable box, but then an appropriatley sized bit of t&e from ad box to 2way cu, then insert appropriatly sized mcb into 2way cu

is the board at the other end of the swa rcd protected?

I was told the bloke who did the install worked in industrial lol the other end is spot on dual rcd board etc the only thing I picked up on was non fire rated downlights( a screwfix shopper I think lol) The mains end may have been someone else but the customer will never tell us lol

Is the swa used as the earth or is one if the cores use, if so you only have to earth the swa at one end which could be the far end so then all you have to do is neatly terminate the end in the cut out box using a stuffing gland .

They have used one of the cores but I would still make off the armored utilising the banjo with an earth off it in case the customer sticks a shovel through it

Do the FMEA's on that design and it is totally unacceptable, end of story, it is downright dangerous.

Don't screwfix sell fire rated downlights then??
