Hi all,

I'm wondering if it's permitted to replace an outside wall light myself if I use the existing wiring from the old light. In theory I just need to fix new light to wall and connect the wires to the terminals. I had assumed this would be ok because I'm not adding additional wiring. To me it's similar to replacing a faceplate on a socket in terms of difficulty.

I have read that new installations need to be to current regulations but that depends what you call a new installation. I thought this meant any new wiring. It's a replacement light, just the old one wasnt much use. The wiring won't be to current regs due to its age.

Thanks for the advice

if you are competent to do it then get on with it and don’t worry.

Ok thanks, it was just as it's outdoors I wasn't sure. I have replaced indoor light fittings again without modifying wiring.
