I would say that old conduit, or metal capping installed from njew is better then any shallow chased placcy crap that gets put in these days.

i get all excited when I see the old conduit going from the switch to the pendant in the lovely concrete flats of London, bit of yellow 77 and bosh! No unneccessary extra chasing, and I love chasing!

I've tied onto loads of old cables and pulled up to position behind capping in plaster. If it passes the tests I don't see a problem.

as already quoted don't look a gift horse in the mouth, if someone's done the hard work chopping the conduit in it would be rude not to use it.
