Hi,

Got a job to do next week, just wanted your opinion on it really,

I am fitting a Dimplex IRX2000 Infrared Heater 2kW, and it needs to come on automatically when someone enters the room, only a small outside toilet.

Anyway, I was going to put it on a PIR with a contactor, but then just looking at the PIR it says "Switching capacity: 2000W incandescent and 500W fluorescent."

What do you think? A contactor would be the better option I would have thought.

I was going to use this: LAP Indoor Ceiling Flush PIR | Light Sensors | NoLinkingToThis

Just seen this thread, and had same problem with pir relay failing after about 3 months although was switching 1500w halogen and was rated at 2000w, ended up fitting a Steinal, which has never failed but very expensive!
Also I think if you fitted a contactor to relay outputs of PIR , its surely only powering the coil to bring contactor in, thus really small load and should last for ever .
But the arse ache and additional cost of fitting , means it might be easier to fit something like the Steinal.

Steinel are the dogs danglies. Have fitted their gear in commercial environments where it needs to be a cut above. Yes they are expensive (60 quid for an equiv. tenner at homebase security light) but they.... Last
