Discuss CU change with 80mA RCCBO upstream in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I'm changing an ancient CU (does not even have a main breaker, just crappy fuses) that had an 80mA RCCBO put in upstream over a decade ago and want to know if I have to remove the RCCBO or can just go ahead and install everything downstream.

I'm putting in a CU with 2 30mA RCDs, 1 protecting lights and d/stairs ring, the other protecting 2 cooker circuits and upstairs ring.

Is there anything in the regs that says I need to remove the RCCBO, or replace it?

Thanks.

80mA ? There is no such animal, do you mean 80A 30ma or 80A 100mA?

If you leave the 'front end device' then you have no division of circuits ie. one out, all out, this does not comply with BS7671:2008.

I have to say, if you're changing consumer units, you really ought to know this.....

i,d whip it out and fit an isolator in it's place.

If it's time delayed, I'd leave it alone.

But surely all it would be protecting is the short tails to the CU and the main switch. Personally I would get rid it may cause problems in the future. This is of course providing it is not on a TT earthing system supplying a metalclad consumer unit.
