hi all,am currently doing my design and verification at college and my project is an auto/electronic workshop and has electrically seperated sockets installed and i have never seen one.i understand the process of seperation, has anybody out there done any work on this subject would be greatfull of any info on install.

Seperation other than shaver sockets is normally provided by SELV and PELV and is covered in section 414 of the BRB.

What are they asking you to design a circuit of SELV or PELV sockets? If that is the case you will need to decide the source of your circuit covered in 414.3. Also I know you can't use BS 1363 sockets unless it's in a location that dosen't have 230 sockets reg 414.4.3

Section 414 is not very large so quite easy to navigate. Post the question and maybe able to help more if I know what they are asking

hi,the question asks for details for bench socket-outlets in a manufactuer/repair area in an automotive electronic building where mobile tracking/gps and security systems are made/installed/repaired and a suitable means of providing electrical seperation as a protective measure against faults instead of automatic disconnection of supplies

This form of separation can be achieved, using a supply derived from an IT system. Whereby you require a double fault, for protective measures to isolate the circuit... A lot more involved in it than that, but that's the basics.

First read all you can on IT (isolated earth) systems, then ask your questions
