If I was to do any notifiable work though and was not affiliated has anybody got any idea how much building control would charge per job if I supplied inspection reports.

This is a question that can only be answered by your LABC office. Some places it is extortion and makes scheme membership justifiable. I have heard on this forum of areas that accept your certs, put you on their own register, and it doesn't cost a bean. Give them a call.

Your situation does however sound like a prize bull who wants to leave his cushy position at the stud farm, to help out on a Saturday at the local butchers as the butcher has a "tasty" job for you.

Cheers mate, I came back to clarify a couple of things that I'd heard about and decided to stick around for a while.
Nice to see you're on form as ever :)

Ahh good old trevs back, welcome back mukka

Have to say that it p****s me off a bit though that because of current legislation although I work on kit worth millions of pounds daily with a lot more potential to do harm I am not allowed to fit a light in my bathroom!

Do the course, it can only help you in the future, and isn't going to cost you a penny...

That's one of the things that really needs to be sorted out, preferably by getting shot of these Part Pee Scheme scammers altogether, by the introduction of a National Register of Qualified Electricians. No need for them then, as you'll need to be qualified to join the registrar!!
