Morning all, want to add an earth leakage clamp meter to my kit these two are what I'm looking at from research so far has anyone got any thoughts? Thanks

TM-EL9809 High Resolution AC Earth Leakage Clamp Meter

TIS 550 Earth Leakage Clamp Meter

Want one to cover both earth leakage and max demand (amps) which I think these both cover, might use it now and again so don't want to spend more than £150, the TIS-550 I can get from wholesalers for £97 plus vat.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,

I have used the TM -EL9808 (also known as a Dilog6507) and I personally would not recommend it at all. They have a cheap feel to them (as you would expect I suppose given the price) and it became faulty withing a year. The replacement became faulty within 6 months. I would definitely spend more and get a better quality one, thats not to say you have to spend many hundreds but just not this cheap one.

The above shouldn't take anything away from the 'Test Meter' who are selling it, their service (both pre and post sale) is excellent.

I have decided that I dont need an earth leakage clamp meter Rob. I have a Fluke T5 clamp meter (not earth) and if I want to find earth faults I will do IR tests. Sorry thats not much help.

Wait around they'll be more replies on this subject! :smile5:

Yeah cheers I understand thanks for your thoughts. I need one for a specific job for a customer where he wants to see how much a load of amps are pulling and I thought while I was at it I would add one to the kit that may come in useful.

Ive got a Fluke 360, to be honest I hardly ever use it as I forget I own one!

Fluke 360 AC Leakage Current Clamp Meter

I recently got that to. Great and solid bit of kit. It feels reassuring to use as opposed to the el cheapo Dilog. I use it a lot more than I ever used my uncalibrationable and defunkt Dilog. Although Eng54 swears by his Dilog.

I have invented a new word I think!

I got the Fluke from ISS for about £80 less than the link.

To Robd: if you can spend more I would suggest doing so. Buy cheap buy twice etc.

I can't remember how much I paid, but wasn't cheap, I am very pleased with it, funnily enough I showed a customer today. I keep my one in the bottom of my MFT box as it tucks in nicely.
