Some time ago I had to replace a bathroom shaver light unit with a new one as the old one looked like it was made by Salvador Dali. Anyway, the new one 'had to be' an energy-saving fluorescent one to save the world for the ten minutes it is used per day. After a couple of days I got a callback that the shaver socket didn't work for charging the customers toothbrush. It turns out that the light had to be switched on to make the shaver socket work. That's not going to save much energy, is it....

obviously designed to be used to shave whilst there, not for charging. and @ voltz, think that pic might be of the old one.

Yes the picture is the old one. I can't think who the manufacturer of the new one is now, it was a couple of years ago, I think it may have been Acel. Come to think of it it was a rechargeable shaver he was plugging in, not a toothbrush.

I suppose the designers' thinking was not leaving the transformer on all the time, however my shaver light which is at least 15 years old (and will now break, as I've tempted fate mentioning it) has a small button between the holes of the socket which gets pressed as the plug is inserted which switches the transformer on, which to me is a much better solution. I just hope that they are still made like this.
