Hi guys,

I've been offered a job as an apprentice and start in a couple of weeks.

I want to make a good impression and turn up with my own tools. I already have things like side cutters, plyers, levels, a set of drivers and a lock out kit from my old job.

Could you give me a list of tools including drill bits etc I will need to have as an apprentice (preferably affordable!)

Cheers

To be honest, drill bits and other consumables such as hack saw blades and electrical tape should be provided by the employer.
That aside drill bits you will find useful are:
Masonary 5.5mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.
HSS 3mm, 6mm (1/4), 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.
Hole saws 20mm, 25mm and 32mm (will need others for down lighters of various sizes).
Wood bits 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 22mm.

What areas of work will you be engaged in ?

If commercial/industrial then a set of combi spanners, decent hacksaw, set of files, pairs of slip joint pliers, bush spanners etc would be good ideas.

If solely domestic work then you might never get these items out of your box.

If shopfitting then you will need some rolls of tape, tie wraps, a javelin to sling cables above ceilings, and a fast van to leg it in.

I would say a decent voltage indicator, tape measure, hacksaws, lump hammer, scutch chisel and bolster, would be a good supplement to what you already have for an apprentice.

If you have to borrow something twice in a day, you need one of your own.

and a bloody spirit level. apprentices can be the worst going for fitting things pi$$ed.

M3.5 rethreading tool, pad saw, tape measure, Hammer, club hammer, bolster, cold chisel, martindale / socket tester, hacksaw, voltage / continuity tester, Stanley knife, water pump pliers x 2

Edit: I didn't post the link....you can get one for a third of that price.
