Richard's solution is a winner. lower the shower position. obviously.as others have said, RCD protection is essential.
 
Thank you guys I'll take it back to the cord and ensure it is safe. I can't put it into the shower unit as a new shower is being fitted and it's being moved over to sit above the bath. Your advice is much appreciated. I will also ensure it is RCD protected
