Took a look at a job in a commercial kitchen. I normally do domestic so I've never seen this before but there's a some kind of automatic switching that detects gas flow to the oven and automatically starts the extractor hood.

It's obviously malfunctioned at some point because it's been bypassed - where would I source a replacement? Also would it involve any gas safe work?

DI or not. i assume gas safe will apply here. geordie???

I would say there is some sort of BMS panel involved that activates the relevant equipment when need to. You need to locate this and work out if thats operating correctly first before replacing any equipment .

Tbh - the customers are friends - just taken on running a cafe so have come to me for advice. If anyone knows who manufactures these switches then I'll have a chat with their technical team before proceeding.

It'll be a gas interlock that isolates the gas until the ventilation is switched on. It'll verify this using a differential pressure switch in the ductwork. There should also be emergency stop switches connected to the unit.

The interlock device may well also include an automatic procedure where it proves that there is no leakage from the outgoing pipework before it opens the gas solenoid valve.
