Discuss GET - Clipsal MCB Compatibility? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Please could someone confirm that these are interchangeable?

My brother has a GET consumer unit and from the information I have read so far it seems that Clipsal available from Wickes or Hager can be used.

The reason for my asking is because he has experienced a couple of random RCD trips.

The GET board is 16th edition and the RCD is only protecting Up Ring, Down Ring and Hot Tub. Despite there being two spare ways on the RCD side two rings have been loaded into the downstairs 32amp MCB. I believe this is for the extension where all the utilities are kept? so I've advised the first step should be to get another 32 amp breaker in there.

Thanks in advance

yes another MCB will do nicely!

Installing another MCB (whether it be GET, Clipsil or another make), will not solve the RCD tripping problem.

This is where my lack of experience will become apparent.

I was presuming that if the 32 amp breaker with the two rings stuffed into became overloaded then this would cause the trip.

I appreciate there could be many different reasons why this is happening but I just thought the first move would be to separate the circuits?

An overloaded MCB will cause the MCB to trip.

by all means add a 32A MCB. the RCD tripping is an entirely different issue. if it's only a couple of trips in a few months, might be best to leave it till such time as it becomes a problem.
