Wow that is a fantastic deal! It's a really useful tool, clamp it onto any pipe or CPC and find exactly where the leakage is, or clamp it onto the main earth and read the total leakage from the installation!

They are currently doing a stock check & I basically got it for cost price as it was the last one they had.

If that really is the cost price there is some excessive profiteering at £216!

To measure leakage it should be clamped around all live conductors. Measuring the current in the earthing conductor is not necessarily the same as the leakage current of the installation.

Fair play to you there, that is a good bargain. It wouldn't surprise if that is the cost price as these firms get very good prices.
I bought a set of walkie talkies recently from a company in avonmouth who import direct from china, paid them cost price @£25 for them. they retail in shops for £100+ which when you factor in the importers markup, then the wholesalers, then possibly another company before the retail store, you can see how things get expensive.

In the motor trade, it’s standard to mark up 100%.

i would think they've priced it wrongly, as an "ordinary clamp meter, i.e. not got the mA resolution of a ELCM.
