Discuss Help or advice with r1+r2 ring. in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

So I’ve finished a rewire recently and I’ve come to testing the ring circuit for the down stairs sockets and I’m not getting what I’m testing in regards to the calculation

LL: 0.36
NN:0.36
EE:0.60(there abouts)

Now when I’m doing the r1+r2 crossing the opposite live and earths but the calculation for obtaining it isn’t what I’m getting when recording the results.

So 0.36+0.36/4= 0.18

But when testing at the sockets I’m getting readings of 0.30 ohms. I’m going to try another calibrated tester this weekend.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Looks like you are using the wrong figures Mate should be R1 PLUS R2 which on this case it would be 0.36 +0.6/4 you have calculated it with r1 +rn

If you are testing at the socket front, switch on the switch then off a few times, also put the plug in and out a few times your reading will drop as it will remove dust and poor contact at the switch.
As Vortigern. I recently installed a new RFC and on testing at the sockets just flicking the switch a few times can give quite significant drops in resistance.
