You should receive the Building Control notice that it has been registered. This is what you keep to prove work done has been notified to building Control.

BTW - i used to be registered but no longer want to be, it does not make me a bad person or a bad electrician. Most of my work is commercial and industrial and also specialised. There is a whole army of electricians out there that do not register for the Odd dwelling here and there. However if the sparky 1 and 2 mainly do domestic work then its simpler to register with the cheapest possible scheme out there.

I find it hard to believe that anyone can issue a Certificate, if this is the case then I could download a blank certificate and fill it in myself ?
Surely an unregistered electrician should not be issuing a Certificate, otherwise what is the point of any electrician joining a scheme ?
I have been told to ensure that electricians are registered before allowing them to carry out any work.

I will need to check to see if the work has been notified to building control., and by whom
Sparky 1 ( who is registered ) tells me HE has notified building control, so presume that is fine if he has done so.

The heading on the certificate from sparky 2 simply reads : DOMESTIC ELECTRICALINSTALLATION CERTIFICATE .
it shows that sparky 2 id responsible for the DESIGN the CONSTRUCTION and the INSPECTION AND TESTING of the installation.

I am not sure of the working relationship between sparky 1 and sparky 2,
Sparky 1 was originally going to do the work with his apprentice but as his apprentice had to go back to college he ended up getting help from sparky 2

Absolutely no need to be in a scheme to issue a certificate. All that is required is that you are a competent person. You can download and fill it out yourself if you wish, but if you are not competent in electrical work then it's not worth the paoaer it's written on. As for the building control side of things I can't comment as I have no experience of domestic work in the UK.

I'm making no comment about your skills as obviously I've no clue.
But for most ordinary people it would be highly unwise to do this.
The bottom line is that most people wouldn't want to risk having to stand up in court after a fatal accident and attempt to defend that they are skilled and competent, and explain why their inspection hadn't picked up a critical issue.
A properly conducted inspection leaves the inspector certain that the installation is safe to use and that the many variable factors unique to the installation (e.g. circuit lengths, type of earthing, distance of house from supply transformer etc.) will lead to the safe disconnection of the supply in various fault conditions within defined time limits.
A good unskilled inspection is checking the right colours are joined up in the right places with the right size cable and hoping for the best. There's a world of difference.

What you have been given is an Installation Certificate which every electrician worth their salt will give you when they have completed any work be this a full installation, a minor works or an EICR.
The Certifcate from Building control is a totally separate thing, this is to say that the work carried out has been notified (Not all work has to be notified), although this is so in your case and this is normally posted out to you by your local council which from my experience can take several weeks.
