Hello,

Have a customer who has a basement and she has to have a dehumidifier unit on all the time to collect the water. Now she has asked if a fan can be installed that does the job insted of the dehumidifier. Now ive installed fans with humidistats in bathrooms before but will this do the job i want??

Thank you.
Carl.

Don't see why not, although if if needs water removing continuously you might as well just have the fan on continuously with no humidistat. Get a nice quiet one. Probably doesn't need to be very high flow if on full time.

I like your thinking,Spock would be proud of you

i installed a humidistat fan last week, great fans!, just be sure to set the humidistat to the correct sensitivity so that it turns of when the humidity falls below, say 75%

A humidistat fan is not the same as a dehumidifier. A humidistat fan has a sensor that switches on a fan at a pre set humidity, perfect for a shower room. It will not draw the damp from a room.

True, but if an extractor fan proves to be sufficient, it'll be a lot cheaper to run than a dehumidifier.

The OP states that the dehumidifier is in a basement and needs to be running all the time this suggests that they have a damp problem. A humidistat fan. Is only suitable for something like a shower room to clear the steam.

An extractor fan on its own is only a partial solution. You need to think of the return air into the room and ensure good air distribution within the room for best results.

In winter this will help solve the problem but the cold air introduced will need heating.

In summer in the UK it will be less useful as outside humidity will fluctuate and can be quite high at times.....

Truth is it may help, could solve the problem, cannot do any harm, but may only be a partial solution.

A circulator fan in a cellar is also a good idea either with a dehum or an extractor fan......

May be a case of extractor fan will work most of the time with a dehum as backup for bad days.

I assume the basement has been properly tanked to reduce moisture ingress?
