Our local mini market has asked about the lamps in there meat cooler. They are having trouble with displayed meat going brown quite quickly.
The cooler guys say all temperatures are fine.
The lamps are fluorescent colour 840 does anyone know if the colour can effect the meat or what colour should be used.
They want lamps and cooler right before changing supplier of meat as suppliers say they are the only ones to report problems.
Thanks

I'd be looking for a colour around 4000 K+.
I wish these lamp manufacturers would stop mucking around with colour codes unless they include the K rating... The last thing you want is anything in the warm white categories/spectrums, tubes should be in the Natural to daylight spectrum....

In a past life, I ran a home delivery supermarkets butchery. The tubes used do make a difference, but I don't know how. Why not give a tube manufacturer a call?

There is a whole science of different lamp colours to be used on different produce displays, and it does make a difference, got some for a cheese counter once and the client reported an increase in sales and less wastage, mind you he was a bit weird.

reduce the price. then it will sell quicker. price of a decent steak these days, you could almost buy a van.
