Finally took the plunge and ordered the Bosch GLM 50C a few days ago ........... its smaller than I expected and will be using it to mark out some downlights next week .......

The user guide is far bigger than the tool!

bloody new-fangled toys...... chalk string and a couple of clip nails has always been my preference. minimal cost and nobody will nick 'em.

why the disagree, murdoch?at least chalk string won't suffer from being knocked over and gobbed up with slop from hairy-arsed spreads.

I think you misunderstand my use for this. ...

I could still use a chalk line or my laser line to give me straight lines, but the laser measure is to mark the distance from the wall along the line.....

Leica Disto are the zenith...if you don't need perfection/industry standard, there are some very good, cheaper options out there. Me, I like to buy once.

I have a disto 110 in the everyday toolbox, good for layouts and small enough to fit my pocket.
I also have a disto 510 for measuring cable runs etc, it has a colour screen that can be used as a viewfinder with 1x, 2x & 4x zoom, making it usable outside.
The 510 stays hidden from the apprentice and labourer as it costs more than they earn in a week.

As pirate said, i like to buy once
