LED TV in Bathroom

Hi

I have fitted a few bathroom tv's in the past (aquavision), these are specially designed and allowed in zones 1 and 2. And are fitted into the wall etc.

These tv's are very expensive, and I have had a number of customers enquire about installing "normal" led tv's into bathrooms.

I can't think of a reason why installing a LED tv on the wall (outside zone 2) with a fixed bracket and the supply been fed from a switched fused spur ( I would still prefer to install the spur outside the bathroom or in a cupboard) and the cable not long enough for the TV to reach zone 2 even if pulled of the wall.

I would be very interested in anybody's thoughts on this as I think this wouldn't contravene 17th edition. Or am I wrong?

this is a very good question. i dont think that regulation wise their is any problem with this. as you say tv outside zone 2 , fused spur / fixed applience. you problem i feel would be the tv, i doubt it is designed for steamy conditions. the inset tv you mentioned is moisture sealed but a standard tv is not. it would pack up the first time the condensation ran down the back of it. hope this helps

I could only think of the problem of condensation, I have a customer at the moment and his bathroom is quite large and the wall where he would like the tv to go is well away from the bath and even further away from the shower. There is ample ventilation. His thoughts are the normal tv would cost a couple of hundred quid against £1100 (plus more to fit, they are a bit of a faff). And if the tv packed in in a couple of years so be it.Hard to fault his reasoning

I've seen a normal TV fitted into a stud wall, with perspex/glass on the bathroom side, and louvre cupboard doors on the other side.
