Liightning Protection System Testing

Hi All

New to the forum. I need some help -I have been asked by my employer to carry out an inspection and certificate an existing LPS. I have as fitted drawings and the original test certificate.
My problems are 1) Never carried out one of these tests, 2) only 50% of the electrodes are accessible with the correct enclosures & covers the rest are buried in the pavement or flower beds I can only see the ribbons disappear into the path.
Do I have to expose all electrodes or write on the certificate of limitations?
Where can I download one?

Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated

If you have no documented/recognized experience in LP systems, i doubt if any insurance company will accept your signature on the certificate in the UK!!

All surface mounted/clipped down conductors should incorporate a test point at around 1.5 to 1.75m from FGL. There shouldn't be any need to access actual earth rod positions for testing purposes. It could well be a different matter if the electrode resistance for any particular rod was way over spec, when access would be needed, if only to apply appropriate soil conditioners!!

I hope this LP periodic test certificate involves a lot more than just electrode resistance value testing. There's an awful lot more to even a very basic LP system than just it's down conductors electrode resistance values, which in the UK should give a combined system resistance value of under 10 ohms....

Can you post a copy of this LP testing certificate, i'd be interested to know what it's scope actually incorporates....??

Will you just 'give it a try' then? 2 million UK lightning strikes per year-this work should be carried out by an experienced engineer.
