Melted casing

Hi
I'm just disconnecting my oven as got new one coming. I noticed the plastic casing is melted and wire blackish. Or previous oven also did this. Why is it doing this??

at first glance that cable appears to have overheated. usually due to the connections not being tight. also they are hard against the plastic. try and give them a bit of clearance behind when fitting the new oven..... and FIT SOME EARTH SLEEVE.

I think the heat has come from the other side of the plastic terminal box, because the plastic around the terminal and the end of the cable is undamaged. There might be connectors behind those melted spots where the internal wiring attaches to the metal busbars behind the terminals. If they have become high-resistance they might cause localised melting of the plastic without any malfunction of the appliance being noticed.

I'm more inclined to think that the problem is inside the oven. There are scorch marks on the brown and blue, lower down the cable and not at the ends. Also the area of melted plastic seems to correspond with the positions of the spade terminals on the other side, inside the oven.
Could be due to loose connections on the inside, or possibly faulty components, or ingress of moisture.

And yes please put some earth sleeving on the bare wire.

These rubbish connector blocks are very commonly used now, they also overheat and burn frequently as yours has. They haven't improved the design, and are still fitting them to appliances, except now the manufacturers supply a metal cover with the appliance that goes over the plastic terminal box cover to contain the fire!!!

I had to replace one on an expensive range cooker with the exact same problem a couple of months back.
