I've noticed across multiple devices in the last few days what seems to be an increase in advertising intensity. So much so on the mobile that I had to install a different ad blocker otherwise the forum was basically unusable, the ads completely drowning out the content. If it is a real change and not a result of my browsers being updated etc, then my impression is that it is counterproductive.

Just been trying to find the page and I have. As above click on why this ad then go through the options, I am not sure the route to this page but you should find this and you have the option to switch them off.

All that does is turn off a particular ad from a particular company. The adverts will still be there just not ‘personalised’?

It seems to be a problem with this forum rather than my google settings. I’m not getting this amount of ads on other forums I’m on

The ads are back for me on the mobile phone. Huge ads stuck between most posts. I'm not getting them on the laptop or ipad. I've stopped using the phone for the forum which solves the problem!

i get the same on the phone. more ads than content. fingers sore from scrolling down to find a post, then the post disappears to be replaced by more ads.

I spoke to soon. I now have a page fill of adverts, including one at the top that I have to close to show the top of the screen. Not very usable like this unfortunately.

It's getting daft and trying.
What's all this 'Men and Women FlirtFindr'?
Kanda Finance, ebay....
I can take it on the right hand side but there's more advert space than messages here, too.

Forum is virtually unusable . Not been a member that long but in the short time Ive been using it the ads have become an obstacle to the enjoyment of the site . I appreciate that ads pay for the site but surely when its at saturation point it becomes counter productive with users dropping away. I saw the same thing when Mpora bought an adventure sport forum I used , within18 months the regular posters were gone.

I can't be bothered, if ads are more important than a decent forum I'm leaving
How do you think @Dan can afford to have the forum running on a server somewhere?
It doesn’t come for free, and neither does his time servicing at least 3 forums in the background.

For the sake of a few ads, I can happily live with it.

shut the door on your way out.

I very much doubt that, but members who pay to support the forum don't see ads.

Ad blockers work very well for anyone who doesn't want to support the forum financially.
I am old and living on a very small pension. I signed up so I could discuss with fellow electricians. I have low vision so the number of ads overwhelm me. I'm sure @Dan is paid by the ads and anyway...
The sign on the door says

I'm middle aged and try to get by on whatever I can earn by working long hours day and night. I signed up so I could learn from electricians and frequently ask questions that some people might find annoying.

I understand the issue with ads and don't like encountering them anywhere online, but was simply pointing out that 'esteemed' members are not immune to them as you had stated. I don't know exactly what the esteemed badge means, but it has nothing to do with privilege and really shouldn't be attached to my profile.

I disagree. I think you bring a lot to the forum - there have been some good discussions and points raised.

Copy of post from Dan on Esteemed badge available:

"Then you'll need to have a post per like ratio of 1:1.

So if you have 1000 posts, those posts need to have an average over them all of 1000. And then the tag will be applied within the hour. It runs every hour or so to check changes.

Out of the 6 'like' options we have, the first three on the left (so the heart and the laughing one) count as positive likes (or reactions). And the three on the right are neutral. Rather than taking anything away. I think that could be abused too easily."

Worth the esteemed badge just for using words like proponderance!

Then I should lose it for incorrectly spelling the word!

preponderance

Meant to add that I look forward to learning from @David Anthony and am pleased that he got set up with an adblocker to make life a bit easier. The wealth and diversity of opinions here often make for great reading.

I'm sure I got a message saying several members had been moved to esteemed by decision of a moderator. Maybe not. Not to worry either way.

I have plenty to say on many topics, but on the subject of electricity my knowledge is exceptionally limited - hence the proponderance of questions among my comments ?
Don't try to be too clever with your English, just because you're leccy lacking..........your spelling's lacking, too... it's 'prep'.?
I've got 'esteam coming out of my ears'.
