I am a fan of Chris Kitcher, and have his Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification. Seems he has a new book coming out on 24th August [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0080965601/ref=pe_3421_21231311_snp_dp#productPromotions"]A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations[/ame]. I have yet to get a copy of GN3 and was wondering whether the new Kitcher book would cover enough detail that I could get his book rather than GN3. I know ideally I would get both, but money is tight. Or will his new book become out of date next year when the regulations are updated?

personally i would get the gn3 first, maybee have a look on amazon or the bay and see what deals are there for them rather than the book shops

I have his practical guide and think its one of the better guides out there, certainly easy to understand!

I was also lucky enough to have him as my lecturer whilst i was doing my apprenticeship and he is a excellent teacher, talks to you in a way you understand, exactly how he writes his books too. He was still there at the college when i updated to the 17th edition a while back.

There is a few short vids he has done on youtube about testing etc, easily found by typing his name into youtubes search bar.

I personally would always obtain IEE/IET books befor any other. I have Chris kithchers testing book, and needless to say it was fairly helpful. I did however pick up on quite a few things that were incorrect in it's content.

I'm a scadden fan myself.

Does any one know if he is bringing out a new version of the testing and inspection that is up to date, being BS7671 2008 amendment 1 2011

Who is scadden, and are they the same type of books as Chris Kitcheners.
Do you know of a testing and inspection practical guide book which is up to date with the new amendment.
Cheers

well new gn3 aint out to april.... so any testing book upto 17th edition is good enough for me.... the new osg with amendment 1 has the upto date forms.. but the other books giver better explanation of testing..

if your learnign like myself, i found chris kitchers book good, and alan lynch part p doctor and now have gn3... to get stuck into....

The new book is the second edition reflecting the BS7671 amendment 1 changes. This book is not a viable substitute for GN3. Hopefully it will be edited to a better standard than his PGITC book which is error strewn to the point of almost being an art form.

Brian Scaddan runs a training company in Waterlooville near Portsmouth. I think he wrote the C&G electrical exams until a few years ago. I did some of my courses with him, nice bloke, but I don't have any of his books yet.
