Newby/17th Edition/stuff

Evening All

Having just registered on the forum, Im required to make a few posts and ask a few questions, so here goes...

I live in Huddersfield, I originally trained as a sparky and over time moved from the tools to the desk and into project management roles and I now have a requirement to do the 17th edition course. Here in lays my next question... Can anyone point me towards a specific discussion on these forums about where I can do the course locally?

Ive also seen several different ways of achieving 17th, namely online/distant learning at massively reduced rates - which immediately poses questions in my mind... why pay around £500 when I could pay £100 - at the moment, Im very sceptical and would welcome some advice. As it stands, I think the best way would be to go on a 4 day course!

a 4 day course or 12 weeks evenings ( 2 hours per eve) will cost about £245 incuding exam at a local college. phone your local college/s and see if they do it.

sit exam alone without any training for around £100, wich is fine if you already have a good understanding of bs7671

that's fine if he's confident of passing, but a fail would mean another £100, so may as well have taken the course.

Thanks folks. I have a fair understanding of 7671. I trained as an apprentice and held 15th edition. However, as I say I moved into project management and lived out of my two brown books (my on site guide and the 16th edition) but never took 16th, and a change in roles means I need to get scrubbed up to 17th. I think the advice of ring my local college is where I'll start. I just dont want to be paying over the odds when I dont have to and doing just the exam may be an option - but id like to make sure I can best prepare for that - Can anyone provide a mock exam source? or put me onto someone who can - the NIC perhaps?

Wish a college where I live would do it for £250, more like £400, anyone can pass the 17th edition, it's not based on knowledge it's based on being able to find what you are Looking for, I personally don't believe in the online qualifications purely for the fact I like to see who is training me and ask questions when needed, but that's just the learner that I am

i suppose it depends where you do the course, i personally find i dont need someone to teach me how to read the book, but as Tel states that depends how capable you are with finding things in the regs

Has much changed in terms of exam layout and course schedule from 15th edition? (aside from additions and amendments to certain regs of course)

EAL do a recognised 17th edition update exam paper. It's what I did...

It's £50 if you hold a golf JIB card. All I did in prep for the exam is flag various pages which I deemed important which made life easy during the exam as it is/was multi choice.

Give them a call, not sure if you can do this with them from 15th to 17th... But only one way to find out.
