Is there any point notifying like-for-like showers. I have been notifying trhem up until now, but someone said something today which has made me think twice...

Anyone else notify like-for-likes?

so, what if you are fitting a like for like shower on an install without RCD protection??? you fit RCD or RCBO so as to comply with 7671, therefore you are altering the characteristics of the circuit/s, isn't that then notifiable?

think you were right in notifying rocker , reason as you have disconnected the circuit to replace the shower you will then have to test it to ensure the circuit is ok r1r2 Zs etc so doing this you will need a minor works ,and as its in a bathroom any minor works carried out will require notifying check out the elecsa web site they have a chart of notifiable works

Hi fellas, would you still need to notify if you changed a pull cord in a bathroom? That would probably triple the price of the job, if there was no RCD protection (ie 16th edition) would you then install an RCD? what about if the supply tails or main earth & bonding were not up to latest regs would you then upgrade those too?

Just feel that if you are changing "like for like" shower, same kW rating etc you do not need to notify, MWC with relevant info will suffice.

Happy to be shot down in flames.

Regards WA

if its a like for like exchange, according to the nic, its not notifiable. whats the point of spending money notifying when you dont have to? If the installation predates the need to have an rcd, you can leave it as it is., obviously, you have to test to make sure all is ok. changing the switch is non notifiable.
