Discuss plastic conduit in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

A lot of people use plastic conduit outside nowadays more for protection than waterproofing as the cables inside should already be waterproof, it helps against small knocks (metal conduit if a hight change of damage).

A lot of shops who have exterior lights fitted but don't want the internal walls damaged on installation opt for conduit as installed correctly, can look professional (much better than clipped cables) and protectes the cable against UV & Weather decay.

Remember when joining lengths of conduit outside that hot & cold weather can shrink/expand the conduit so allow expansion joints to prevent this.

As eskimo has said about helping with small knocks

There are 2 types of PVC conduit LG - Light Gauge and HG - Heavy Gauge which has thicker walls and can take a lot harder knocks than LG

Rather than worrying about keeping the water out i would make sure there are a couple of drilled drain holes at any obvious low points to allow any moisture/condensation to get out .

edit ; If you are going to need drain holes put them in before you put the cables in so you don't drill the cable ;-)
