|Pub toilet light exploded

Hi, I rewired the lighting in a pub recently. One of the lights in the ladies toilet has exploded the glass cover. The bulb itself is still on but making a strobe effect. They can't turn the circuit off as they have a full pub and a live band playing, but obviously want it fixed for tomorrow. When I wired them in it was a bit of a fire-fighting excercise - ceilings are shot and they really need re-boarding. Loads of ---- coming through the cable entry point from the crawl space above and settling in the light dome. Toilet itself gets very full of condensation. A similar bathroom light did the the same thing in another pub in the area (I didn't fit that one). Any help would be much appreciated.

If glass it may be it has expanded due to environmental temperature rise/heat from lamp and screws holding it in just a turn too tight.

Plus as you say bad flooring above .Change fitting for a more forgiving one.

You would need a flash to ignite the dust presuming it is airborne with vibration and flammable. The lamp is still intact you say.

Will they be good enough to allow you to isolate the circuit,at anytime in the future?

When they do,i would be advising you to suitably gland,the cable/cables,which enter any fitting,and tell anyone who was whinging about the strobing,to consider better security,in order to limit ingress of hallucination inducing drugs

Thanks. That's probably the most sensible sugestion I've had so far.
I didn't want to work on new year anyway :-(

Unless we can see the lamp and fitting, we cannot give good advice as to how to stop it happening again ? Any light in a poor enviroment will give you trouble. all you can do is minimise it.

Hi - as you've mentioned condensation - this can cause stress if cool water drips onto hot glass front (say). Interested to see a pic
