Recommend a LED torch, similar to....

....a Thorsman Lightstik II.

Light output in fantastic, Li-ion battery lasts ages before a recharge is needed and has a handy hook on the rear.
All that said, we've gone through four of them in the past 12 months and now our local Electric Centre is refusing to purchase any more for exchange due to the high failure rate.

Any recommendations for a similar, but more reliable, LED torch?

I use a head torch. A Petzl Tikka plus to be exact. Gives a real good amount of light. It's stuck on my head all day usually, i don't know its on there its so light

Ive seen a SERIOUS torch somewhere, will dig up a link, it had a halide bulb and was at least 300 notes. We're talking military serious stuff!

I had one of those LED torches too, notice the ‘had’ bit! Used it for about a week, then LED’s started to fail, and then it wouldn’t work even after a full charge. Couldn’t return it as I bought it from a trade show and couldn’t remember from who (said they would send a receipt, but nothing arrived).


Now I’ve also got the Mark 1 torch, and it is far superior in every way to the mark 2. Ok, it may be a little bit heaver, but it just feels more robust and longer lasting.

I have something similar by Facom, it cost a fortune but its been through the wars and keeps on going. Its IP66 and its been swimming on more than one occasion, its a few years old now.

The Thorsman torch I posted about? If so then yes, the Mk1 torch was much better though I did find the Mk2 had far superior battery life but that was negated by it packing in all the time!
I've ordered a Ring RIL2500 so we'll so how that goes.

Got a couple of mag lite led's one big one small, batteries seem to last forever and super bright, the small one has a flashing setting - which I've yet to find a use for - didnt know if I had to syncronise my blinking with the flashing to save battery life :s

I hope that I can offer a useful torch here, I recently purchased a LED LENSER P7, cost me £36 on Amazon.I took a chance after reading some reviews where buyers claimed that it was a fantastic torch.Well, I wasn't disappointed, it runs on 4 AAA batteries and the light output is amazing.It also has a distance focus feature that concentrates the beam to a long distant.I can honestly say that this is the best torch that I have ever had, beats all the Maglites hands down.

For long range, looking down between joists, cavities etc then the Maglite 4 D cell LED (got mine from Screwfix). That plus a head torch. Started off with the Draper 8 LED job that takes 4 AA batteries - find it quite comfortable but then I do have a head the size of the chaps on the Tefal ads! (Seriously though Draper do one that looks identical but takes a standard 6V bulb and lasts about 10 minutes, so watch out for those and avoid!) I've since found LED copies on eBay for £4.99 that are identical. I know it seems too cheap and there is a catch - the instructions and packaging aren't written in English - come on IT'S A TORCH!
