Discuss Residential cable options in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I

infinity man

I haven't done much residential wiring for a number of years and reconsidering whether to use 12 gauge for all convenience recepticals and lighting or to use 14 gauge for all lighting and keeping those circuits separate from all others. Doing this I would use 20amp breakers for recepticals and as required 15 amp for all lighting. Given that is a bit more difficult working with 12 gauge and somewhat more costly I am wondering what the present trend is.

I take it you are in the USA or Canada when you talk about 12 & 14 gauge cable as British cables are metric sized in square millimetres.
As this is a UK forum I very much doubt that we can be of any help also regulations and codes are completely different in the UK to USA.
You're probably best to pose this question on a US forum such as www.electrical-contactor.net/forums
Hope this is of help.
