Think of it not in terms of meeting a specific body's requirements, think of it in terms of keeping your own (and other's) body alive.

Apprentices get the procedure drilled in for that reason, and on practical exams not doing it 100% is a fail for precisely that reason. No one wants to have to explain to friends, relatives, and the judge at a fatal accident inquiry what happened.
