Hi everyone,
I have problems with a Siemens Altivar 71. Some friends gave me this inverter, but I don't have any idea how to comunicate with it. The inverter has an RJ45 port with ModBUS and CanOpen access, and I already bought a RJ45-USB Serial cable.
I downloaded the Siemens software, but from what I can understand I should buy also a Controller, is it right?

Thanks for the answers!

What are you tying to achieve by using the Inverter? Is it for simple parameters or do you need to use the settings on the software?

Don't you mean a Schneider altivar?

What software have you downloaded?

Yes you will need a control module, what exactly have you been given, just the power stack?

Lastly, is this a home project or are you trying to implement this on a working site?

Yes, you are right, is a Schneider Electric!
I've downloaded SoMachine and others .eds files (all the things I found on their site).
I have just the inverter (with the little program interface attached on top), nothing more.
I read that the controller is needed most for the ModBus connection, and I hoping that for the CanOpen I could connect it directly to the PC.

It's an home project!

I believe you need the SoMove software, that’s what I’ve used before on the process drive range.

The Altivars won’t run without a motor so you cannot monitor anything, just dick around with the parameters

Ok, I'm downloading SoMove and connecting the motor (a Siemens
1LH5118-4AA99-Z) to the inverter.
Then, I'll connect the inverter to the PC with the serial cable using the CanOpen protocol and I'll see if changes something..

Altivars will run without a motor (Still show error codes) when you change them out of vector control.
