Hi Guys and Gals
i want to suspend swa between two buildings about 20 feet apart at high level and will find it difficult to attach a catenary wire. i was wondering if anyone knows the name of kit the electricity board use and also where to get them. it appears that it is bolted to each building and looks like a spring which is wrapped around the cable to take the strain.

There are three methods for suspending cables, as far as I'm aware.
One is to use a catenary wire, and then attach the cable to this wire.
Another is to use a cable, that incorporates a catenary wire (not sure if this is still available).
Finally there is just suspend the cable (normally hard drawn copper).
All methods will require a similar method for attaching the cable or support system to each support point.

The prefered method for me would be a cable ladder spanning the two buildings it allows for future expansions, if you choose a catenary ensure the swa isn't prone to swinging in the wind as it will damage the cable as its not in its design to repeatedly flex, ive seen a few cases of this where the cable shorted out between the catenary and its first fixing point on the building.

The spring you are refering to is called a preform or wrap. It is cable size specific and should not be used on SWA directly as it will strain the cable if not supported along its length. If you can ft a bolt each end why can you not fit eye bolts and a catenery. you could always attach the swa to the catenery on the ground and pull up at each end if you are concerened about reaching to fix midspan.

Much better idea than attempting to slide the ties along using a long stick.
