Thinking of starting up . Worked for someone for 7 year .I have got nvq3 2330 level 3 and am2. Been out of game a year as been working as a telecoms engineer.
what would my quals able me to do. Would I need to do 2391 or whatever its called now.
and were can I find this info as nobody seems to really know what quals you need .
mainly wanting to carry out my own work and test.
do I need to be niceic registered for this or am I able to test my own work.
Solid advice needed thanks

To carry out any work you need to be competent to carry out the work to the regulations, test and certificate it.

If you intend to do notifiable work you also need to register it through your local building control office directly or join a scheme to do that for you.

Contact the schemes to find out their individual qualification requirements for membership.

No, you need to be competent to test your own work. Building regulation compliance notification is a different thing altogether. Being a scheme member is one way to notify your work to building control in addition to testing and certifying it. Are you planning on carrying out notifiable work ?

Domestic work
and competent with cabling
my old gaffer was nic registered so I just carried work out tested it and he signed it off as supervisor so never had to deal with this side of things .

In England any domestic wiring additional sockets kitchens bathrooms etc

According to this chart I got a supervisor qualification but when I sent my qualifications off it only came back as a gold card electrician

scheme membership to do part p is advised. Stroma is the cheapest by far

If you join a scheme you will become the qualified supervisor for your company. This is a title the scheme give you and it does not need to be present on your ECS card.

To get up to speed with the building regs you can download all the approved documents from here... Planning Portal - Approved documents

Within part P it outlines the scope of notifiable work in domestic dwellings.. Basically new circuits, DB swaps, and work within zones of a bathroom is the range of works in England.

Thanks all a lot of paperwork involved in this game makes me think is it worth going solo

thanks for the good advice .
This advice is hard to come by as no one seems to know.

To get a card ranked higher than Electrician you will need the equivilent to 2391, older sparks can gain accredition from directors signatures and references, modern sparks from 1990 ish onwards need a testing qualification to gain approved or higher status.
