SO client got old MEM board , Mcb's but no Rcd. She got some Underfloor heating to be installed. But cant afford new RCD Board.
Suggested just as cost effective option just putting in RCD Main Switch before board. obviously not as practical but serves the purpose.

Question is if What is the correct test procedure for this? Do i treat it as new board and test ALL house circuits or Just as A circuit Up to existing board.
Obviously a EICR before would help but cant see her wanting to go down that route either because of cost...Always about the pennies aint it. !

Regards.

just what i was going to say. cheapest option by a mile.

edit: but it's amazing how these people can afford UFH, flat 42" tellys, ipads for the kids, but can't afford a new CU

Ensure that all the main earth etc. are in place and in good order.
Then you only test and certify the work you have done.

Yeah....but all cables n boxes been installed (not by me) and they located above worktop in kitchen. I think this would be best option hands down but got a sneaky feeling she wont go for "the look" of a RCD spur above work top in new stylish kitchen...

Great idea tho mate...n im sure as gonna temp her with it...nice one mate

Yes i totally get that. So as can see its case of Pre install test of all circuits on existing to check no potential nuisance tripping of RCD. Then Install but test only the works i have done, being a circuit to Board From NEW main switch RCD

so what about all the other points in this kitchen. don't they require RCD proptection?

Well its existing. If im only making an addition i would only provide for what im doing no?

Rest of kitchen from what i can tell was just left. not touched. they have just done new floor and units, gas oven. but the fitters have layed heated floor and bought cables up into a single box already tiled around...with no supply LOL ..jokers. means now i gotta take few tiles out and their new worktop(which thankfully aint fixed) and get supply cable up

So i gotta break into circuit thankfully the double socket behind oven which does ignition.....

I mean technically i could change the double socket to a RCD and stick floor heating on plug top. (if total load of circuit permits) its only 1500w mat..

why not fit a dualo backbox, single socket for ignition and RCD to feed your FCU for the UFH. just a bit of enlargement to the existing double box hole.

Oh yeah baby, thats thinking out the box.......great....of course ....the sheer simplicity of it ....thanks....
