Discuss Twin & Earth on plug top in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

It is totally wrong, as we all know..but it has been going for years! Doing well though getting 2.5 in.
And of course, what the plug top is feeding is not part of the installation, as it is plugged in.

I have done it a couple of times as temporary measures when disconnecting peoples boilers or whatever when doing a rewire, I certainly wouldn't leave it like it though as its not ideal, it works but is a pain getting the conductors in!

Seen it a few times over the years, one of my neighbours is a classic example of incorrect T&E use, his garage is fed by 6mm² T&E clipped to garden fence and extended with a 40A JB sealed with bathroom sealer!.
Must get a pic sometime :D

Worse than DIYers are farmers,a great many whom i count amongst my friends,i think i am shock-proof (no pun intended!) with what i see now...seen a plug top with two core speaker wire and a bicycle bowden inner as the earth, taped every 6" of course...oh,and the agricultural pioneer who,to boost the feed to his tool shed when using the welder or boost starter, run a seperate extension lead from the house with a 2 meter lead fitted with a plug top each end,one in the extension, and the other in the other outlet on the double!...his argument being he had made the other outlet part of a ring...:dunce:

Twin & Earth on plug top

Just seen a outdoor batten fitting on the side of a porta cabin with a twin and earth wire loosely connected, running all the way to the top and across the roof of the cabin.

Re: Twin & Earth on plug top

Managed to get a pic of the neighbours garage feed, the JB is not fixed, just hanging in front of a pile of bricks.
