Discuss Varilight V-Pro Eclipse Touch Control Question in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi Everyone,

I have been an avid lurker on these forums for a long time on and off and this is my first post.

I am a builder/property developer and have a reasonable understanding of basic electrics, but we do have an electrician that does the majority of our work.

This is a question that he can't answer so I thought I might ask the fountain of knowledge here.

We are doing a property at the moment and wanted to put Varilight V-Pro Eclipse Touch Control in the kitchen and lounge open plan.

The confusion we have is this:

We want a 4 gang in the kitchen with the following

Master

Kitchen dining down lights
Kitchen cupboard lights
Dining table lights
Lounge main light

In the lounge we want a 3 gang

Slave

Lounge main light
Lounge down lights (not in kitchen on 4 gang)
Kitchen dining down lights

I have read you need to use a master and a slave for 2 way, but what about if there is a light on the slave that isn't on the master (Lounge down lights)?

Is there a way it will work or is it not possible?

I've just thought maybe if we bought another 1 gang master dimmer and hid it somewhere out of the way it would still have a master on the circuit for the third light?

I hope I have explained myself

Thanks in advance

You definitely need one (and only one) master for each group of lights. Simplest would be a single master and a 2 gang slave in the lounge. If the aesthetics aren't acceptable, then your suggestion of an additional single master looks OK (can you put it somewhere useful?).

Hi HandySparks,

Many thanks for your reply, I think like you mention, the aesthetics wont be as great with a 1 and a 2 gang next to each other.

If I cant find anywhere to put the single thats useful, I might just lose it in the stud work behind the 3 gang in the lounge and that way if there is any problems it is still accessible from removing the plasterboard back box.
