A customer of mine has got problems with their water heater. They say it seems to only come on if the heating is on and so on days like today whens its too warm the heating does not come and so they have no hot water. They got in a plumber to have a look but it always seems to work when they came and likewise when I turned up for a look. They feel its the thermostat on the boiler but its set at the advised 54.5c/130f (so it cools to around 49c/120f at the taps to avoid scolding). Any ideas..? Thank you in advance for your advice and support.

Is this a Gas Combi boiler and if so is the thermostat set at 54 just for hot water?
or
A gas boiler heating a hot water cylinder, if so the stat is set too low?
or
Something else?

Unless I have got the wrong end of the stick, will it not be the diverter valve .I had the same problem at home ( had to have heating on to get hot water ) turned out the valve was sticking , replaced valve problem sorted.

If its got a 3 port valve then it could be wired wrong so that the valve only opens when the headings calling.
if it use to work ok then I'd say the valve has packed up.
check the wiring 1st if all good check that the valve opens and closes when asked.
